FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Your Questions, Answered

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW FOR MY FIRST SESSION?

Rolfing sessions are a bit more active than massage, and for that reason we have clients wear either shorts or undergarments. While direct contact with the skin is ideal, the work can be done through clothing and you are encouraged to dress down to your level of comfort. Another way Rolfing differs from massage is that it is done without the use of any oils or lotion. In fact, it can be a bit of a hindrance not allowing the practitioner to hold tension between two points or access the intended layer. For that reason, we ask that you kindly skip lathering the day of your appointment.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM MY FIRST SESSION?

There is no one answer to this question, as each session is emergent in process and goals vary from person to person. I have found that coming to the process without an expectation of what will be achieved, and rather holding an explorative curiosity about what is going on in your body and what else could be possible, can allow for surprising unanticipated changes.

General map of the experience - upon arriving at the office you'll fill out some brief paperwork, then we'll chat about what you notice in your body and general goals, after that you'll dress down and we do some assessments of movement before getting you on the table, during the session I'll cue you to do some micro movements and check in with yourself about what you're feeling, typically the last minutes of the session are done seated as we reorient you to gravity in your verticality.
